Input from Keyboard not allowed

Postby indraveni on Fri Mar 07, 2008 11:57 am

Hi,

Today I encountered a problem in Openoffice. I was working on it and all of a sudden my keyboard input was not working. I was not able to type even a single character on my writer or calc or any. where as, type-in in other applications like test editor, browser are working fine. Could some one tell me whats the problem. I checked even my SCIM is not active on my panel ( pressing Ctrl +space also dint solve my problem.)

Awaiting for sooner reply.
Good Luck

Hey hey, i got the solution ..........

Even though the scim is not active on my panel, some scim related modules running in the background are responsible for this. i checked the output of

ps -A | grep scim

7283 ? 00:00:00 scim-helper-man
7285 ? 00:00:00 scim-panel-gtk
7877 ? 00:00:00 scim-launcher

and then I killed all the above using kill command. then when i tried typing in Openoffice, it just worked.

ah !

good tip ..

when running SCIM, one needs to be "aware"

reminds me of NN Banerjee's predicament .. once upon a time

someone wrong chose white color for character's color

suddenly nothing was visible .. but on 'selecting' text .. everything
showed up .. deselecting .. invisible again !

subTip :

sometime background color on webpages is horribly dark ..
AND the character colors too ! .. e.g. deep blue on black background ..
use Ctrl+A .. select all .. to make it readable, usable ..
(you CAN'T change back/fore-ground colors on such webpages
